FAQ – Deep Tissue Massage in Bangkok
Here are some of the most common questions about a deep tissue massage in Bangkok to help you make the most of your spa visit.
1. What is a deep tissue massage?
Deep tissue massage is a therapeutic technique that focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. It's especially helpful for chronic aches and pains, contracted areas such as stiff neck, upper back, low back pain, leg muscle tightness, and sore shoulders. The massage therapist uses firm pressure and slow strokes to reach deeper muscle layers.
2. What should I wear for a deep tissue massage
For your deep tissue massage, you'll typically undress to your comfort level. Our therapists use proper draping techniques to ensure your privacy throughout the session. We also provide comfortable, loose clothing if you prefer to remain dressed during Thai-style deep tissue treatments.
For the Aroma Deep Tissue program, we provide a disposable nylon undergarment for your comfort. During the massage, your therapist will cover you with a blanket and gently uncover only the area being worked on to ensure both your relaxation and privacy.
3. Is deep tissue massage painful?
While deep tissue massage involves firmer pressure than regular massages, it shouldn't be too painful. You might experience some discomfort when the therapist works on particularly tense or problematic areas, but this should feel like "good pain" – therapeutic rather than harmful. Always communicate with your therapist about pressure preferences.
4. What to expect from getting a deep tissue massage
During your deep tissue massage, expect firm pressure as the therapist works systematically through tense muscle groups. The session begins with warming up the muscles, then gradually increasing pressure to access deeper tissue layers. The therapist may use elbows, forearms, and knuckles alongside traditional hand techniques to effectively release chronic tension patterns.
5. What are the benefits of a deep tissue massage
-
Relief from chronic muscle pain and tension
-
Improved posture and mobility
-
Reduced inflammation and faster injury recovery
-
Better blood circulation throughout the body
-
Decreased stress and anxiety levels
-
Breakdown of scar tissue and adhesions
-
Improved range of motion in stiff joints
-
Relief from office syndrome symptoms
-
Enhanced athletic performance and recovery
-
Overall sense of relaxation and wellbeing
6. What should I prepare before getting a deep tissue massage?
Before your deep tissue massage, stay well-hydrated and avoid heavy meals at least 1-2 hours before your appointment. Arrive 15 minutes early to complete paperwork and discuss your specific concerns with the therapist. If you have any medical conditions or injuries, be prepared to share these details to ensure a safe and effective treatment.
7. What should I do after a deep tissue massage?
After your deep tissue massage, drink plenty of water to help flush metabolic waste released during the treatment. Take it easy for the rest of the day, and consider a warm bath to prevent muscle soreness. You might experience some tenderness for 1-2 days – this is normal as your body integrates the therapeutic work.
